Rocket Scientist Ernst Stuhlinger dies at 94

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Just a day after the Phoenix mars landers touched down on Mars one of the pioneers of the US space program has passed away. Ernst Stuhlinger, one of the last surviving German rocket scientists who came to America after World War II and formed the engineering foundation of the nation’s space program, has died.  It is amazing how far our space program has advanced since the days when Ernst Stuhlinger first started working on our space program.  We’ve landed on the moon, created shuttles that can be launched over and over again, there is a space station and now our second trip to mars.  I can only imagine how proud Ernst must have been watching all these accomplishments over the years
